What DMAT actually checks

DMAT is the aptitude test German universities use to check whether an applicant can handle Master's-level academic work — before a single lecture starts. It measures analytical thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving and academic aptitude directly, through timed reasoning tasks.

It doesn't reward memorised facts — it rewards clear thinking under time pressure. That makes it a fair, internationally consistent way for universities to compare applicants from very different education systems, India included.

02 — The exam

Two modules. Four sections. No surprises.

Core ModuleMandatory for every candidate

Figure Sequences

You're shown a sequence of shapes and figure out what comes next — based on how they rotate, shift, resize, or change colour.

  • Pattern recognition
  • Visual intelligence
  • Spatial reasoning

Mathematical Equations

You solve for missing values in equations, using logic and number relationships rather than memorised formulas.

  • Numerical ability
  • Mathematical reasoning
  • Data interpretation

Latin Squares

You complete a grid so that every row and column follows the rule — a fast, precise test of systematic thinking.

  • Logical sequencing
  • Deductive reasoning
  • Accuracy under pressure
Subject ModuleMandatory · General Academic Reasoning for Indian APS applicants

This section checks whether you can apply academic thinking to real situations, not recall facts. You'll interpret information, reason through problems, and think critically — the same skills a German Master's program will expect from week one.

03 — Format

Fully digital. Fairly scored.

Digital & secure

DMAT runs on a proctored digital platform, so every candidate sits the same test under the same conditions.

Scored on reasoning

Your result reflects accuracy, logical ability and problem-solving speed — not subject-matter memorisation.

Built for admissions

A strong DMAT score is evidence to German universities that you're ready for postgraduate-level work.
